COLLECTIF LMC X-1
LMC-X1 is a new collective founded in Strasbourg in 2023 by artistic director and composer Giovanni Montiani, in collaboration with saxophonist Noa Mick.
After a series of projects and self-productions in Italy and Switzerland, the two musicians decided to launch a new collective dedicated to interdisciplinary works and their international performance, particularly in France and the Grand Est region.
The primary goal of the collective is to make contemporary art and music more accessible to a broader audience by embracing interdisciplinarity, pluridisciplinarity, and transdisciplinarity. The collective aims to present new art and music in innovative spaces, offering fresh opportunities for audiences to discover the diverse and dynamic world of contemporary creation.
Artistically, the collective seeks to collaborate with creators from various fields, including visual arts, multimedia, video, lighting, dance, theater, and beyond. These collaborations will allow for multifaceted presentations and interpretations of the music, creating opportunities for audiences to connect with and enjoy new experiences that evoke unique sensations.
The name LMC-X1 is derived from the field of astronomy, where it refers to the Large Magellanic Cloud X-1. This designation is notable for representing both an irregular and a spiral galaxy. Irregular galaxies defy conventional classifications and often appear chaotic. The collective draws a strong parallel between this concept and its own work, which exists at the intersection of order and chaos, experimentation and tradition. This fluidity enables them to transcend definitions and embrace inter-, trans-, and multidisciplinarity in their artistic exploration.
